The House Of Long Tomorrows
on: May 16, 2019, 23:23:53
Written for  my wife`s 50th birthday  - I thought she might enjoy a song about her beginnings.Raised ( like so many Thai kids) by her grandmother, she likes to tell tales about their nighttime food foraging and all the tough love.
A time out from the forum lately ; its nice to get out of the cave and hear other voices.

The House Of Long Tomorrows

three girls fit on a bicycle
one to pedal
one to steer you can hold the umbrella

hurry home from school little Laa
its almost monsoon
tonight we`ll hunt frogs by the light of the moon

you`ll sing me that song
your songs are the dreams I see through
to the house of long tomorrows

nearly an orphan such a tomboy
maybe you can fly
put on this dress dropkick the sky

ask the rich lady about the Eiffel Tower
today you`re a Christian
try to sing words you don`t understand

sing me that song
your songs are the dreams I see through

to a steaming green land
full of glory winged bugs
sweet bamboo sighs
there`s only good luck
your father and mother`s
flip flops are there
at the door of stories
as many as the creak of the stairs

sing me that song
your songs are the dreams I see through
to the house of long tomorrows
always coming home
to the house of long tomorrows

I was hoping you would be posting a song. This is a beautiful one. I love the images and how those perfect backing vocals are just in the right place in the production.

Nice arrangement.....the way all of the many cool elements kind of sneak in. LOVE that percussion......you bring it in just right.

I have hit replay as there is just too much here for a single listen.

Truly excellent work both lyrically and production-wise.

@Leonard Scaper  Thanks for your listens. The occasion required some sentiment in the lyric but I tried to include  some lines to hint at the difficulties my wife faced. The guitar is nicely percussive - I just added finger cymbals.
@Marcus Nalgaber  I really appreciate your comment on the vocals- its an area I`ve  worked on lately.

What a beautiful song, @robertkc. :) And the lyric is wonderful. Some of the imagery gave me goosebumps. Your vocals have a very pleasing raw quality about them, and suit the music and the words perfectly. Authentic and  emotion laden.

The song is lovely tribute to your wife.  :)

Props for the vocals, percussion - what's not to like on this perfect song.  The title has a fine poetic ring to it.
Is there a pedalsteel or lapsteel in this?

Lovely song.
Lovely lyrics.
LOVELY voices.
What a great way to tell the story.
You don’t do songwriter. You do magician.
Thanks not English? You bet it is.

I go back to give it another spin.
And again.

The simplicity of beauty always goes hand in hand with tenderness. Beautiful song and sweet interpretation full of nostalgia. The lyrics play with the images that they suggest and little by little you find yourself immersed in an exuberant universe of everyday gestures. Congratulations to you and your wife @robertkc

Lovely song. Heartwarming.
Exotic and yet it still resonates.
Your wife must have had a truly colorful childhood.
I've no doubt she appreciates it too.

Hi @robertkc

This probably isn't something I would usually listen to (stylewise) - but I did enjoy it.

You've got a lot going on but it all fits really well. I like the percussion and the backing vocals especially.

The interplay between the acoustic and what I think is slide guitar works really well.

cheers

Jurgen

@Mora Amaro La Loba  Your reviews are as poetic as your songs- thank you for those kind comments.
@Rightly  I`m glad the feelings come across . I hear my wife playing it on her phone...aargh, we have good speakers!
@Jurgen  I appreciate your listen and comments. Really trying to up my game on the harmonies lately , so thanks for that mention.
About half my material is folky though there`s a psychedelic  rock place I go to sometimes

Came back to sneak another listen.
Make us happy: sing about your lady, every year a rear older.
Or make me happy for that matter.....
Great piece of work mate!
Kind regards, Gus
