The Last War (Ever)
on: March 08, 2022, 13:57:08
As with many of us, current world events have been crowding my mind. This past weekend I let those thoughts flow a little.

The Last War (Ever)

When the fog settles in
O'er the land where we've been hiding
We will open our eyes
And see what must be seen
'Cause in the face of these sins
Even the land is crying

With the dogs of war
At our doors
Persistence will be our friend
We must look to the shores
Of a land that is free and green
And with this cut to the core
We must do more
Let's make this the end

We'll make this the last one
The last one
The last one
The last war....ever
The last one
The last one
The last war....ever

When the fog settles in
O'er the land where we've been hiding
We will turn this tide
And be what we have been
And having faced our sins
There will be no more crying

Can this please be
The last one
Can this please be
The one that makes things clear
Can't we please see
That this is not who we are
May this be the last war.....ever

Great lyrics.   I found the acoustic guitar to be really interesting, and really comes through in the instrumental part.  Lovely.

Can’t think of a song that you made and that I didn’t like @Leonard Scaper
We both know that protest songs seldom work, but I am glad you sang this one anyway!
Thank you!
Kind regards, Gus

@DavidHutton .....thanks for your appreciation of the lyrics and especially of the guitar work. That acoustic guitar is my old favorite 1933 Kalamazoo.

@Mora Amaro La Loba .....thank you, Mora, for always listening.

@LePlongeur .....not sure if this is a protest song, Gus......just a song from the heart.

It is really nice that you have managed again this time with your lyrics to address a discouraging world situation but in a way that does not drag down but encourages the listener and is also comforting through the sound of your voice @Leonard Scaper .
I love this simple instrumentation of guitar and piano limited to the essential. Very great  :)!

A really beautiful song…moved me actually….wouldn’t that be nice eh?? “The last war ever!” The guitar work is exceptional as well. Congrats on capturing how so many of us are feeling at this time in a beautiful song.😄🎶👊🏻🎶

Stunningly beautiful and poignant @Leonard Scaper

The sparseness of the arrangement cradles your voice and pleadingly hands us the message... a message we all need to hear and desperately hope to be true.

Thank you 🙏

@rightly ........I appreciate that about the guitar. I have always just let things happen there......really no idea what chords I'm playing even. I guess I just stuck with what little I had there. Been close to 60 years now since I had that old Silvertone first in my hands as a lad.

@LostBoy ......SO glad you felt it. This song came on its own.....I just channeled it.

@1roomstudio ........lets all put that hope in one big basket and when we sing our songs lets let the music soothe this troubled world.

Humble thanks to all others who may have listened to this one.

There's a certain comfort in thinking this will be the last war, and a certain comfort hearing it through your voice. I like the way you write songs to humanity without having it sound preachy . . . just an earnest wish. Always love your organic minimalistic presentation, and this one has a lot of that going for it . . . what a very excellent listen !

@Leonard  Scaper,

Yeah, sounds great from the beginning.  Such a lovely rich guitar sound accompanied by those bold piano chords.  The lyrical message is poignant and musically, this song is crying, delivering a sincere message.

Quality work just as I expected!
