This Town.....an album
on: May 19, 2017, 20:02:34
@marcus_jb stumbled upon a song that is part of an album that I did a few years ago. I wrote and recorded these 10 songs in a period of a couple of months in the hope of presenting a piece of work that told a story through songs that led directly into each other. To my knowledge this album, for that's what this really is, has never really been heard as such.

I am hesitant to post it because it is a bit much to ask folks to listen to 35:00 worth of continuous music. We tend to like our music in smaller, more manageable segments these days and this piece is presented as a single 35:00 track of continuous listening. I'm comfortable posting this, though, because I know folks will not feel obliged to listen. I just felt a need for this piece of work to finally see the light of day in the format in which it was meant to be.

This is a story of the angst that can build over time as one's spirit gets slowly pushed deeper within as one is forced by circumstance to make do with the life one has. It is also a story of what happens when love slowly rises above all of that and changes everything. This is not autobiographical.....in fact I made a real effort to craft a story that was fictional enough to be real to many.

Listen at your leisure if you are so inclined.   :)

Hey @Leonard Scaper , I'm listening to your album, needed a break from study-ing all day. I maybe do listen to music a bit differently than most listeners, I do not always listen to lyrics or messages (sometimes I do), but now I was in the mood for just letting the music come in. You've managed to get me from a hyper-focussed state into a comforting, relaxing and enjoying and happy mood..
So far I've experienced your musicianship as an expirimental journey; I tend to see/recognise that in your music. To me it's like the songs are composed/jammed (I mean that in a good way) just in time as if they were prepered just before I was about to go listening..
And right now I was totally in the mood for that. And it works for me! I can feel all my hyper-focussing disappear and I'm relaxing and losing myself in your soundscapes, listening to your unique vocal (and harmonies) as a guide. There's a lot of variation, I cannot remember listening to a whole album at once in a long while.
The mixes/production sound beautiful to me, I can hear the craftmanship. Imo you've managed to combine all tracks, ideas and effort into a very neat and normalized sounding package.
Thank you for sharing this special piece of your work, and for (of course unintendedly) change my mood into complete chill and relax vibes
Cheers, I'm going to eat my yoghurt, stand on my head for a quarter or two and then have some sleep  ;)

PS. Damn, just clicked on that button 'Order a Heineken'.. That's going to taste weird along with yoghurt.. I'll report back after a good night of sleep  ;) ;)
PSS.. A bit of extra karma for you Steve!  ::)

I'm proud of this track, check it out! https://soundcloud.com/martimedia/dreams

@Mar T. ....I am SO pleased that you listened to the album. I am even more pleased that it was a good experience.....thank you.  :)

I must admit that I listened to it as well last night before bed. It has been four years since I heard those songs and they all sounded new to me. The experience of that kind of listening experience was very relaxing for me as well. I realized that, in fact, this album is very autobiographical after all in many ways.

I am of the generation that listened to albums all the time. I have missed that kind of exposure to music.

P.S.  May I suggest that you do something about color coding these service buttons?

Just played this in the background while making and eating breakfast here in rainy Liverpool UK! Well listening to a number of your songs consecutively makes you realise what an accomplished guitar player you are. Stripped back and unplugged, but you often build up really interesting and surprising layers of sound.

I like the lead in track 'This Town' which you come to realise becomes quite hypnotic with the refraining riff subtly going on there in the background. After that one my next favourite is the drive song, with its good narrative and brighter feel, which adds a good contrast to some of your moodier pieces. Well placed in the album, it makes it stand out. I was also taken by the hook of 'Do We have Any Chance' (if it is called that) and again this track stands out due to the clever and luscious layering of your guitar work - and very memorable chorus.

You suit a sustained listen as it helps you chill into the moods and vibes you create - so maybe you are going to be an album artist after all. Damn MTV hey @Leonard Scaper which came along and made us all into three minute heroes!  :)

Very enjoyable and I am sure you are proud of this thoughtful and creative body of work, thanks for sharing. It's out there now, so let's hope it gets more attention.

By the way, I bothered to listen to this long piece because a) I like your stuff but also b) I've noticed you always comment yourself on most of the tracks that get offered up on here by the various members, including my own. You give a lot to the forum and I am sure we all appreciate this as individuals. So you kind of deserved a sustained listen in my book! Cheers!  ::headphone::
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

I listened to "This Town" tonight in the train on my way home from work and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This album is quite an accomplishment @Leonard Scaper , kudos! I like your style, it's very recognisable in every single song, but you totally manage to keep it interesting through the whole thing. I like how the story progresses with each song, how the mood changes, and how it still belongs together and remains one total work of art. Amazingly well done!  ::headphone::

I shall carve out some time to experience this - I just wanted to echo @MichaelA 's appreciation for the time you spend REALLY listening and commenting on the tracks posted on the forum... You really do go above and beyond and your support comes off in waves...

Looking forward to listening but didn't want to ignore the thread until that point..
