Thoughts

Cleaning the kitchen cabinets I came across an older song of mine. I promise I will not share any more old stuff but this one is dear to me and tells a bit of family history. It's probably not my strongest but since I am still such a new kitchener it might give you some idea of my ingredients. The lyrics of this song are not mine but originate from a poem written by an unknown Far East prisoner or war. It inspired me to compose accompanying music. The poet puts in words the thoughts also my uncle might have had when he went through the ordeal of several Nazi prisons and concentration camps after he was arrested during his flight from Holland to England where he wanted to join the Allied forces to fight against the enemy. Shortly before he left he got engaged to his big love. He stood firm during much of his incarceration but his last camp, Flossenbürg, proved fatal to him. After the war his fiancée emigrated to the US were she started a new life. The portrait appearing in the video is hers.

Thoughts

You are ever in my thoughts
Though parted we must be
Side by side we walk along
The paths of memory.

I cannot hear your gentle voice
Or take your hand in mine
But none can rob me of my dreams
Of you, my love divine.

In the land of heart's desire
We'll live and laugh with love
With a future bright before us
And a cloudless sky above.

I cannot hear your gentle voice
Or take your hand in mine
But none can rob me of my dreams
Of you, my love divine.

Lives once closely linked together
Now lie far apart
But you are ever in my thoughts
And ever in my heart.

I cannot hear your gentle voice
Or take your hand in mine
But none can rob me of my dreams
Of you, my love divine.

If you dig it, do it. If you dig it a lot, do it twice (Jim Croce).
