Too Late Now - sketch
on: January 22, 2017, 08:42:51
hi all,

I was picking away and started to ad lib a song which I've recorded as a sketch idea.

Not sure what to do with it so any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated. It's very simple and I'm singing (which I don't do very often) so it could end up like a lot of my sketch ideas and end up in the "maybe later" file...

Interesting...and a good start I think.

I call these "lesson songs"........where the songwriter is bringing up wisdom from the depths of the Muse. In this case you have told us that it is too late to be thinking about something that maybe requires action. That, of course, makes me....as your listener....want to know what it is I should be doing and perhaps why I should be doing it.

Lesson songs are cool vehicles for social change or perhaps introspective change. We all have some wisdom in us somewhere, right? In the role of "conduit for the Muse" we get to dispense that wisdom to our listeners.

Keep singing. Your voice has good character and you'll only develop that through....more singing.

Thanks @Leonard Scaper - I appreciate your comments.

I think the words (right now) are introspective and I don't really know what/who etc. is the cause of the thoughts. They were just words that came to me while strumming away, but I'm sure there's a reason for them.

I'll work on this some more in a week or so after I get back from a week away.

cheers

Hi @Jurgen

I totally agree with Leonard regarding your voice. All you really need is confidence. And I hope that he and I, and I am sure there are others, can give you some of that. There's an authenticity in your voice that comes through despite your hesitation. I've listened to a whole Hell of a lot of vocalists in my search for collaborators and only a few of them have moved me like you do. What you've got is real. I hope you learn to trust it.

And your "sketch" works for me as well. I can feel lyric stuff coming up. The verse material is way too general... that's where I'd focus. "It's too late now" as a chorus is perfect.

I could take this as far as "our planet is dead because of what we humans have done to destroy ourselves"... but it's "too late now". But I'm willing to back off of that extreme position and go with something less political. Let's talk about it.

Later,

sounds good - in tune and placed wel in the guitar part.
next steps could be to record voice and guitar separately.
Will be interesting to follow this track.
Cheers

Thanks @oorlab and @revivalchoir - I'm hoping to take this one further with some help from @smajor with they lyrics.

And thank you Stan and @Nic for the comments on my voice - it is a confidence thing that holds me back - that and my very limited range!

The trick will be in coming up with a melody that doesn't try and venture too far from my abilities but I think I'll enjoy the challenge of attempting that.

cheers

@Jurgen I like how its all in one recording as it brings a type of atmosphere that a mixer can barely capture. :) Thanks for sharing a recording of your creative  atmosphere. The song sound like it has potential for more and hopefully you would find the right execution to capture the energy.
Peace!

@Jurgen Very welcome man! :) Your voice gives off a "Red Hot Chilli Pepper" vibe to it. It's pretty cool if ya ask me.
