'Two Hearts In The Snow' - Same Lyrics Challenge
on: October 17, 2018, 11:31:42
Hi folks, well here is my entry. Warning - quirky free zone! ...Just a simple Christmas love story.

https://soundcloud.com/michael-a-duffy/two-hearts-in-the-snow

Two Hearts in the Snow

When I looked out of my winter window
A shroud of snow covered the ground
And did I dream a robin by my winter window
Sang you were back in town?
Twelve months now, since you went away
Feel it like yesterday

I love you
Ill write it in the snow
And draw a big heart around it
Just so youll know

So I walked out into the frozen landscape
To the fields where wed once go
Where Id etch those words and carve my snowy heart shape
If you passed by, Im sure youd know
Id seize back time thats slipped away
Oh if I could, this day

I love you
Ill write it in the snow
And draw a big heart around it
Just so youll know

The snow was falling
Felt like calling
To Heaven with a prayer
But turning around
I was spellbound
You were kneeling there
Engraving in the Christmas snow
Ah, just to let me know

I love you
You wrote it in the snow
And drew a big heart around it
Just so Id know

I love you
I wrote it in the snow
And drew a big heart around it
Just so youd know

Two hearts in the snow
Two hearts in the snow
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

Holy Shit! this is simply AMAZING @MichaelA ..... I was trying not to listen to the entries so far , as mine isn't finished, but when I saw this pop up on SoundCloud I couldn't resist. You know I love everything you do , but this is just brilliant, your best yet in my opinion. (and to think it nearly didn't make it far as a finished song...)
Your voice just so suits the vibe, I literally nearly cried, I hope everyone votes for this,
but now I'm going to have to go listen to the other entries !! to see what I'm missing :-)
really great job mate...

Wow! @MichaelA this also jumped into my SC feed. It is really beautiful. Agree with @oorlab it may also be my favourite of yours. The melody is gorgeous... and lovely words too. The production of the whole song is spot on.

My favourite part of the whole song is the melody and delivery of I love you in the chorus. I was dying to hear it repeated as line three of the chorus but I got over that and just had to wait until the next chorus... then hit repeat.

Stunning!

Ill get to the other entries eventually. V busy bee these days... how fab that you were inspired to finish this yourself too!

The entry weve all been waiting for.
From the master himself.
From a quirky free zone? You are selling yourself short! This (these?) lyrics are a fantastisch christmas love song. If that isnt enough, I dont know what is.
I love it. When the snow comes, ill write it in the snow.
Good luck with the challange (spelling control oks Challange, but it looks an bit strange.
Kind regards, Gus

Oh good, positive responses!  :ok:

Hi @Dakoda , thanks so much for hoping everyone will vote for this. But you had probably listen to the other entries first, ha ha!  ;D But I am glad you were so positive about it, as the song has come to mean a lot to me for personal reasons. Cheers for the support!  ;)

Thanks too @Zedd , I didn't necessarily think this was my best song, but as I have got two votes for that so far I had better start thinking what I am doing - and what goes down well - more often! Glad to hear you are busy, Karen, but hope you'll find some time for your own music soon ;)

Very kind of you @LePlongeur  and @Dutchbeat  for the encouraging words. I really love the song, but the lyrics too, and it is a total joy for me to listen to other talented kitcheners putting forward their own fabulous interpretations. It's like Christmas come early!!!  ::thumb::

very good! @MichaelA  Perfect singing. How did you get the piano effect? Sounds cool - sort of a tape effect. Brilliant harmonies in the chorus.

I keep returning to hear what the master thought when it all started.
Sometimes I press 'like' and sometimes it does and now it doesn't work and I don't see the difference. There'll come a time when i understand soundcloud, @MichaelA .

I hope you don't mind if I ask, but did you record it on tape? I hear a flutter around 0'30" (French timing - meaning 30 seconds from the start).

Lots of luck with your entry. A lot different from mine. Like that a lot too.
Kind regards, Gus

Thanks @oorlab and also very nice to see you coming back Gus, @LePlongeur. You both are curious about the piano track. I wanted this to sound kind of retro and delicate. It is just a Tape Delay effect which seemed to do the trick.

Thanks for the encouraging comments both.

Ahhhh...., sorry @MichaelA  and @oorlab, I've overlooked Oorlab's remarks for sure.
I should read more carefully.
And yes, we listen carefully. There's a lot to be said for that. I think.

Have a nice weekend.
Kind regards

Your voice sounds fantastic on this. This song is special when performed by its author.

Thanks @Leonard Scaper for those kind words. I am pleased how this worked out for me, but equally delighted to hear all these different interpretations of the lyrics, each reflecting different Kitcheners' different personalities and styles. They've all been good so far, not least your own fine entry!

Cheers!

This is indeed very beautiful, moving and absolutely brilliant! I feel the same as some others, this is definitely my new favorite song of yours @MichaelA . Perhaps this is also because I am so well acquainted with the words by now. But I really love that melody, the arrangement and especially how your vocals fit into it. I've never before enjoyed it so much to hear you sing. :)

I also noticed the tape effect, and I think it gives the whole thing a very nice retro feeling. Everything goes so wonderfully together, it's just great!

Very, very, VERY well done! ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone:: ::headphone::

Cheers,
Mark

Well @MichaelA - you've matured as a singer / songwriter with this one.
The confidence in the controlled vocal is obvious and there is a real emotional connection with the lyric.

This track is a great example of how you don't need bells and whistles to tell a story that connects with the listener and sometimes less is definitely more. For example, the use of subtle tambourine really stands out for me just adding a bit of rhythmic support towards the end of the song without breaking the mood.

Another stand-out moment for me is the 'snow is falling section' and the falling pattern just adding to the overall imagery.

You should be justly proud of this one. I know I would be.
