Unicycle (poem-song)

Hi Kitcheners!  :)

This song came about unexpectedly after I came across @Bill from November Sound  ‘s inspirational input photo (in the prompt writing thread) of a girl on a unicycle! I must say, that I wasn’t planning on writing a song at that very moment, but I was reading the lyrics written by the other kitcheners and they inspired me to write a late-night poem! :) (which was shared in the prompt writing thread). When writing it down I had a rhythm and melody in my head, but I wasn’t creating it while singing or playing chords (as is usually the case with my other poem-songs), the day after (at a more decent hour  :P ) I sang it out and did this quick recording (see below). So now you can also hear the poem out!  :D This was an interesting exercise... and the rhythm is quite different from my other songs.

Thanks once again to the contributors of the prompt writing thread as I would not have written this if it weren’t for you!!  ::heart::
I encourage other kitcheners to check the ‘Prompt writing’ thread out and have a go at it! :)

There’s a place
where the clouds in the sky
Set ablaze,
all the hopes in the eyes
of a girl, with a dream,
of possibilities unseen
In a world
that will question each step

There's a greatness
in the smallest of souls
And you'll miss
What their future can hold

Unless you open your heart
And stumble upon
The cloudy reveal
That sets her apart
One wheel’s all it takes
For her journey to start

Let her balance her way
Ride through untrampled paths
And believe in the chance
That her freedom will last
She will master the stride
With the humblest pride
- If only you'd open your eyes -

I hope you will not loose/lose sleep over this prompt writing thing @Rachel_D !!!
But yes, spontaneity and the unexpected outcome is very much the basis of the idea behind prompt writing.
Normally I would never think of writing about unicycles or young people cycling.
I love it very very much, to see you so creative and to see you make all these beauties.
This is yet another gem!
I am a fan, totally.
And how nice that you included the original prompt in your post.
1’27” of bliss.
Kind regards, Gus

Nice work @Rachel_D !

I gave you your first thumb up on YouTube!

The chorus is a cool idea. It makes a nice pivot from that verse and I like the "if only you open your eyes"  kind of closing.

@Rachel_D This is lovely. I couldn't possibly criticise anything about this as it's sung so beautifully. Excellent. :)

Hello @Rachael_D,

I'm pleased that you got around to recording this.  I previously read your lyrics and thought that you had handled the prompt writing text. OS skilfully.  You certainly do have  lovely voice and this was delightful to listen to.
