Hi Kitcheners!

I know, haven't been active for a long time, but with my new studio somewhat ready I was inspired, first time I picked up my guitar to write a song again since September last year. Hope you like it and want to share your thoughts on it.

This is what it sounds like:

Lyrics:

Watch And Learn

Verse1:
Just watch, and youíll learn
To  ask for nothing, in return
To know your place in life,
perhaps itís a place, you have earned

This staircase, it ainít a ladder
For just anyone to climb
For most, itís a door leading nowhere
But for some it works just fine!

Chorus x2:
Watching, learning
Always yearning
Wanting more

Verse2:
Lessons, arenít hard to come by
Life just treats you, as you go
Walking, someone elseís footsteps
Stumbling down a path, too narrow

See me falling, will you pick me up,
or just keep on walking by?!?
Are we travellers on the same road,
or are we sliding down the drain?!?

Chorus x2:
Watching, learning
Never earning
And never done

Bridge:
Trying, to break freeÖ
Struggling, to be meÖ
Smiling, to feel freeÖ
Believing, we are all freeÖ

Outro - (just repetition and improv)

(Update: Iíve updated the song today but I canít swap it out because Iím using a free SoundCloud account, did a master of it and the draft volume was a bit low).

Thanks @Dutchbeat for even more great feedback. Iím blushing.  :)

Iím aware of the Cult and She Sells Santurary is a classic great piece, I dunno if theyíre comparable but Iíve been trying to get that sort of ďringing soft guitarĒ sound for a while and I finally found a partial answer for how to accomplish it.

Itís used in quite a number of old and new songs, from the seventies and onwards, very much in recent pop music. Have found that it probably is the result of guitar, strings, style of play (near the neck, avoiding the thicker E A strings) light plectrum or fingers and layers of guitars combined with different effects, chorus and the likes).

Love it, man! Very strong song and production. I waited for your voice to up an octave in the chorus, but I still think it's great! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you @Charlie for listening and giving awesome feedback.

Youíre on to something with the chorus . I do wish I could have gone up an octave and maybe giving it some more edge and feel in my vocal performance, but without formal training and a serious lack of practice, this is what came out of lots of cutting and editing many takes.

Well, Iím not a singer my wife tells me, so in the master Iíve lowered the voice half a dB because she thinks itís easier for people to hear the music. Canít blame her, really

Sounding Fresh @Layerson - the voals remind me of both REM and Simple Minds. And the intro & outtro has a fleetwood mac vibe, while the middle part has a rolling stones drive... but foremost it is a Layerson track!

Thanks, @oorlab  :)  I hardly know what to say...

Fleetwod Mac has made one off the best recorded albums to date, and that was in the early seventies. My favorite song by them is The Chain, think itís one of the best songs written. I really like that you hear some resemblance.

(Secretly, Iím very proud of the Layerson resemblance   :) )

Thank you @Goatrelated   :)

Iím very happy you like it with the Layerson sound. Would be terrible not to have an expression and id musically @LePlongeur  ::headphone::

Iím aware these comparisons to other acts pops up with feedback, and I never take it literally. Itís kinda hard not to use references and I think itís okay to do so, as long as people donít get hubris at least. I use them myself and mostly because music can be hard to describe at times.

Whenever I hear a song from a Kitchener whom Iíve heard a few times it etches a new reference in my head, adding a new flavor to my cooking. Iím glad I have a spice of my own, but a couple of years ago I wouldnít have got the concept. All I wanted was to sound like someone else. Now itís more I want to borrow parts of the sound and clarity of some other recordings.

Thanks everyone for listening, it means a great deal and inspires.
