Winter Blue...Leonard Scaper and Chris Spruit
on: April 22, 2019, 20:33:06
Hey folks! Here's a new song from Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit .

The coolest thing about this collaboration is how the lyrics came together. After Chris sent me her beautiful piano track I started immediately working on writing the verses, working with the feeling of that track. When I sent the first verse to her she had already sent me the choruses. Those lyrics worked so well together that we never touched them.

With spring in full bloom in the Northern Hemisphere now, this song is called......

https://soundcloud.com/leonardscaper/winter-blue

V1
Will we find a reason
To change our ways
In this changing season
And these brighter days

As the spring rain falls
And the peepers call
We struggle to see
Over all these walls

That have sprung up within
And grown way too tall
Let the healing begin
And let the sun shine down on

Old friends
Old friends

CHORUS
Goodbye winter blue
In blossom and in light
Spring will bring us back to life
Winter blue
Spring will come
And open up our eyes

V2
Through these long cold nights
We could not sing
It'll be alright now
With the dawn of spring

'Cause as I look in your eyes
I see notes on the horizon
Can we set them free
Before this cold hope dies

Let the healing begin
As the spring flowers rise
Let the warm wind blow
And let the sun shine down on

Old friends

INSTRUMENTAL

CHORUS
Goodbye winter blue
In blossom and in light
Spring will bring us back to life
Winter blue
Spring will come
And open up our eyes

@Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit  So pretty! The music and lyrics are perfect together, I love the gently played instruments, and I think "Winter Blue" is such a pretty title.  You make a great team!! Well done!!
Do what makes your heart sing :)

This is lovely.. Beautiful piano track @Chris Spruit .. nicely mixed with the guitar @Leonard Scaper ... sentiments lovely - the lyrics work really well. So interesting to hear how it evolved.. Harmonica works beautifully too... This is classy stuff guys...  The only thing I miss from this is hearing you sing together.. Interested to hear why you decided against that? I think a harmonised chorus at the end would have been the icing on the cake!

Fab! You work very well together you two!

@Kellyanneg ......thank you for those kind words. Yes....we both knew Winter Blue was the title right away.

@Zedd .........I think @Chris Spruit and I will sing together eventually. We like the fact that our voices are so very different, though, and it feels right to feature that. Thanks for your appreciation of the musical elements (especially the harmonica   :) ).

Your song has the breath of the gray sadness of winter and the look of the child looking for the blue color of the sky behind the window.

I love the @Chris Spruit piano, it is the perfect instrument for this kind of song because it gives way to it from intimacy.

The contrast of your voices throws it into open space!!! Outside and inside...

Who plays the harmonica? I had not heard that unique sound for a long time.

I think you're missing in your avatar now, @Leonard Scaper . I sense a crucial moment in your life that I hope will be diluted like smoke. ::thumb::

Smiling....I'm still there @Mora Amaro La Loba ....and still right here. Life is really just a long series of those kinds of moments, right? The trick is to stay in the center of the stream.  ;)

Thank you for your appreciation of our song. I played the harmonica. I used to do that a lot in an earlier life.  :)

I never know what to write in a review, but I just wanted to say we'd never hear anything like this on the radio and maybe not on sound cloud unless you knew where to look. A shame really. Very nice song.

@Vince ......that is the best review that an independent minded singer songwriter could possibly ask for.  :)

Thanks for stopping by and giving our song a listen.

@Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit, what a lovely song. Beautiful piano track, tender, reflective  lyric, and the vocals perfectly reflect the tone/mood in those sections sung by the respective vocalists.
All very relaxing.

The harmonica of course adds an element of poignancy.  A fine collaboration.   :)

My dear friends @Leonard Scaper and @Chris Spruit , this is something special.. Damn. Kitcheners/-ettes/-auts hear how powerful collaborations can be.. These are two completely individual kitcheners joining there sound, and the result is amazing, breath-taking, beautiful and caused goose-bumps to my skin.
To pick 3 things that stood out in this collab:
I loooved the dynamics in the piano part of @Chris Spruit and I loved the production skills applied upon the complete package by @Leonard Scaper . But most of all you 2 sound great together, could recognise both of your styles, and you managed to combine that to one unique, though perfectly combined song. A new fusion is born ladies and gentlemen!  ;) ;)

Chapeau, loooooved listening to this gem!

Cheers!
