Winter Twirl
on: August 06, 2021, 10:35:04
Huuuuh, a winter song within hot summer???

My vocals are not yet where I would like them to be, but every new song helps me to practice more control.

Thank you so much for listening and for all the encouragement I've already received from you here, love the kitchen!  ::heart:: ::heart:: ::heart::

I like the string quartet arrangement - it is spikey and edgy and it compliments your vocal perfectly. Your voice has so many colours Mo - it can resonate on many levels - and then be something completely different - truly unique.

Really enjoyed this - thanks.  :thumbsup:

We, as a family, are familiar with winter twirls in summertime.
Our children sang Sinterklaas and Christmas songs in summer and summer dances in winter.
So this is not a great surprise to me.

What is a surprise of course is your development from (searching) starter to the level of craftswomensship (yes, I know) you put on display here. Really amazing!!!

I do more than like it, I love it!
Kind regards, Gus

@Mo
A super cool song containing a lot of classic elements where instruments call and answer but sometimes answer with a call.
very well done - Thanks for sharing

Wow...........intense. Absolutely love the dramatic seriousness. The music is terrific. Even your vocals add a high degree of authenticity.
I wish I could understand the lyrics!! I'm sure I'm missing out!!
Love it...........

@Mo,  Outstanding string arrangement and a lovely build that introduces a very menacing soundscape.  Those beautiful. strings dance across my heart1

@Mo  wonderful. The strings in the beginning and then later on the beat - the whole piece sounds very well constructed, like a Bauhaus piece of architectur.

On SC Dakoda mentioned Grace Jones, and @rightly wrote about Nina Hagen and Marla Glen (that I never heard of - but will check out) - do you have any use for comparisons liek these, even if you would make them yourself while creating?

Oh, so many responses!

Thank you so much, guys, for picking this up and listening to it! It makes me very happy!  @Bill  @Klaus Rysoe @rightly @Vince @Cool Hand

Damn @IronKnee , that means i failed my own exam, i thought i could manage it so the lyrics could be heard out, sorry.

Gus, what could be a more beautiful or meaningful goal for music than when a listener says they feel happy? Assuming sincerity @LePlongeur ;)

@oorlab, I'm afraid I don't quite understand how your question could be meant.
I'll try to answer it the way I thought it was meant ;)
Well, to be honest, I'm not a fan of these comparisons myself.  Maybe I can't deny that influences of my youth might have rubbed off on various things and maybe you can see a connection somewhere vocally, but I don't compare myself to anyone and I find that mostly inappropriate as well. But that's how people are, isn't it? They tend to think in patterns and brains looks for a pigeonhole for everything. I don't want to judge that as good or bad ... it's just the way it is. When i read these comparisons, i think a bit about - but mostly its hard to get what ppl heard exactly....

When I create something, I don't have anyone in mind but myself and I have enough to do with that, hahaha.
I don't really know what Grace Jones, Nina Hagen and Marla Glen have done, maybe I've heard a song or two from each of them. If at all. But, and  that really touched me  which is why I would like to mention it:
Just when I started with music  in 2019, by some miraculous coincidence, I had personal contact with Marla Glen for a short time, we just had a little chat for some days! Unbelievable, that flashed me, I didn't know her  before at all!

@Mo - indeed I meant my question like you answered it: are you a fan of comparisons?

Myself - I feel a bit halfhearted about iyt. Sometimes, when I'm making a new song or music project, I am imagning things like, what would happen if Stevie Nicks would sing this, or Zappa would play guitar, or this would be of interest to fans of Radiohead.
That is sort of mixing and emulating styles. 'Doing an Elvis' like Lennon and McCartney used as remarks towards eachother.

But once an outside listener hears these comparisons, it could be too much.
How cool you had contact with Marla Glen! More reason for me to check out her music.  :pompom:

Strings are beautiful  ::heart::

I love the vocal actually - it completely articulates the message very well and carries the melody and message - itís almost like a cry for help - like a pack of wolves howling at the end

Great work  ::dj::
