Copywrites
on: March 18, 2019, 18:20:25
I hope I'm not throwing this ingredient into the wrong pot of soup, but I'm just throwing the topic out here...copywrites. (Does this belong in a different category?)  When should one decide to copywrite a song?  I feel there are a lot of factors there.  Do you guys copywrite your songs when completed?  Before posting?  Is it a publishing thing?  A waste of time unless....?  I know you can copywrite groups of songs, on line etc.  What makes you decide to?  I think that's a good summary of what I'm trying to ask.  Or maybe all of the above...again, just a general topic I'd love to hear your thoughts on!  Enjoy your day!
Do what makes your heart sing :)

I always copyright my stuff officially through the US Copyright Office. (electronically - eco)
But, I usually wait until I have a collection so that I can save money. Individually it can get quite expensive. People who are trying to sell songs say that you shouldn't do things in collections but I've given up on the idea that any of my songs will ever go anywhere. I just do it anyway. The truth is - if Lady Gaga stole my song she'd end up owning it as I'm sure her lawyers are better than mine.  :-\

I self publish with CD Baby, ASCAP as well. Again, I just do this for most but often wait until I have enough for an EP. Supposedly you are not supposed to publish yourself if you want to sell your music to publisher ... I won't be doing that so it is what it is.

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

I posted some links a while ago so I thought as opposed to linking the post - I'd post them again in this thread.

Link to UK Copyright Service Fact Sheet P-01: UK Copyright Law

on: February 02, 2018, 15:05:41

The UK has different rules regarding copyright compared to say the US or possibly other regions.
I thought this link to a fact sheet about the UK copyright law might be useful for some people on here.

A Nice thing to have  tucked away for future reference.
Iíve tried to figure out if any of this will be affected in the near future because of the Brexit.
Iíve been told that this is still under consideration/scrutiny or whatever the official name would be for that process.

Would it be a good idea to paste other copyright publications here too? Or would you rather reserve this threat for English rulings?
Thanks!!
Kind regards, Gus

Actually I think the Berne convention has normalised things a bit. I think the USA is part of it.
