Hi all,

Ran into this vid and thought I'd share for everybody who wants their tracks sound loud AND with enough grit/density:

Key concepts:
-Your master can be loud if your mix is 'balanced'. (each track has an average level and a fixed amount of max peak)
-Applying saturation to individual tracks can make them sound louder while peaking less
-Applying limiting to individual tracks will help balancing as well, heads up for the ones who only use limiting in their master bus.

I can recommend this vid to everyone who loves the mixing/producing aspects of music creation. The host talks about several plugins/effects as well, but imo the lesson is in the bigger picture.

Enjoy the vid and let us know what you think!

Cheers,
Mar T.

Hey @Mar T. .....this is a great vid! I have watched many of his tutorials and this one is among the best.

I spend a huge amount of time in my mixes managing the peaks in each track through manual volume automation. I get a pretty loud mix (for my style) with the mastering limiter doing very, very little. I can't even imaging a mastering limiter showing 12 dB of attenuation.

Great post!!! Everybody should at least take a look at this.

Cheers @Leonard Scaper , just ran into this one (it's from a few years ago) and immediately subscribed to his channel. Always a good thing to see how one approaching this matter (and I follow a lot different craftsmen).
Been experimenting with electronic sounds last weeks (bought Reason 10.2) to use that as a second DAW. It has some great synths and I'm trying to create sounds from scratch. And I've learned how important saturation is from that point of view. I like how things relate to each other. The Reason experience helps me reconsider my approach on rock mixes. Yes it does!
Great to hear you noticed this guy as well, and that you're applying some of his tricks for real! I'm going to when I mix my next rock track  8)

Everybody else: curious about your opinion! I hope this thread will result in some nice discussion about the subject, revealing different approaches..
Cheers!

Many thanks!!  ::thumb::
I think there is always a thin line between reality and fantasy.
Crossing that line is easy
The difficult thing is to return to reality
And stay sane
