Music anatomy ;-)
on: June 25, 2017, 02:24:25
Hi all, back from vacation (looooved and needed that break) and I'll be more present next week, missed being around!
I ran into this funny chart on facebook recently and I figured it'd be nice to share, loved it!
Talking about different music styles, what are your thoughts? Are there characteristics that can be added to this chart? Is the list of styles complete? (Hiding under my desk now haha)..

Let us know!!
Cheers,
:mart:
I'm proud of this track, check it out! https://soundcloud.com/martimedia/dreams

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D @Mar T. ...that made me laugh out loud
especially the descriptions of the lyrics of the various genres  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

i guess my typical song would be (when i am not collaborating with fellow kitcheners who have songwriting talents)

some sound sample, and then a drum roll / loud crash cymbal/ four chords repetitive synthesizer arpeggio line and beats kick in / more synthesizers on the same chords are added/ more beats kick in and add hand claps or cow bells / one measure obvious break ending with a reversed cymbal and a crash cymbal / two lines of irelevant lyrics are added on the exact same chords / vocal stops but another synthesizer line is added / repeat / repeat but louder..../ explosion with a crash cymbal on it / end

me, myself, and Pie

What a great thread! But to add the anatomy of my own songs to the chart, I'd need a psycho-analysis first... Maybe somebody can lend me a hand? @ajwvdberg ? ;D

Thanks for sharing that, @Mar T. Very clever.

Although not quite the same thing, this made me think about the stages I go through when composing a tune. And here they are:

Stages of a Michael A Composition

•   Fiddle with guitar for inspiration. Nothing.
•   Decide to give up on songwriting.  :-\
•   Next day, when putting guitar on EBay, annoyingly catchy tune enters head. Realise that this could be the best tune ever and needs to be recorded.
•   Record my masterpiece.  ;D
•   Wait a day.
•   Play it back imagining all the Brit Awards and Grammys coming my way.
•   Realise it is crap.  ???
•   Think about uploading it to Songwriters In The Kitchen Forum for feedback.  Decide against this to save further embarrassment.
•   Get drunk.  >:D
•   Upload the song to Songwriters In The Kitchen.
•   Funnily enough other songwriters (those who are sober) don’t think it is the best tune ever either.
•   Think about giving up on songwriting.  :-\
•   Decide to listen to one or two other songwriters in the Kitchen – who must be far worse than me. Someone musically inept will do. Randomly choose @Nic.
•   Decide to give up on songwriting.  :-[
•   Need cheering up. Listen to another Kitchener to try to get over my retirement from songwriting. Need to party! :D
•   Randomly choose @Leonard Scaper   ::)
•   Slit wrists...

(Sorry Lenny, only teasing!)  ;)
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

@Mar T. lol!! "Featuring Lil or Big somewhere" haha where are all those middle-sized rappers  ;D
And the emphasis on 3 minutes reminds me of Tim Minchin's "Three Minutes Song!"

BTW this would be my chart. For your own good don't adapt it!!

Sad verse with a simple piano pattern/ Sad chorus with another simple piano pattern/ Sadder verse with the first pattern/ Sad chorus again/ Piano solo/ Mic noise
